Range Rules

The purpose of the Club’s range rules is to enhance the safety of its members and their guests. The best way to ensure gun safety is a strict adherence to the Basic Principles of Gun Safety.

Basic Principles of Gun Safety

  1. Always be aware of where a gun is pointing, and keep all guns pointed in the safest possible direction. At our range the only safe directions for the muzzle to point are either straight up or downrange;
  2. Always keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you are ready to take the shot;
  3. Do not load a gun until you are ready to shoot and unload the gun immediately when you finish shooting.

Remember, these Principles must be adhered to each time, every time. In this regard, always assume that every gun is loaded, and treat the gun accordingly. This is true even if you “know” that the gun is unloaded. Many people have been shot by “unloaded” guns.

Cold Range

The Chatuge Gun Club operates a Cold Range. A Cold Range means that, with two (2) exceptions, all firearms anywhere on range property, including the Firing Line, shall at all times be and remain “Unloaded”. The full rules, including transport, the Firing Line, Warning Lights, carry and guests, are in the PDF above.

Except for days when organized matches are conducted, there is no Range Officer present at the range. Members must maintain safe range procedures by following Range Rules as posted at the range.
